Best Christmas Gifts for Catholics

July 11, 2022 17 min read 1 Comment

This time of year, many people begin frantically searching for the ideal gift for everyone on their list. It can be exhausting, time-consuming, and exhausting. We often lose the joy and peace that comes with Christmas because we are preoccupied with the gifts. To get you started, we've compiled a list of meaningful Christmas gifts for Catholics.

Wouldn't you rather spend your money on a gift that will help someone grow spiritually and encourage them in their faith?

Our top list of Christmas gifts for Catholics is back, and it's even better than previous years' lists! We've kept some of your old favorites, but we've also added many new items. This Christmas season, it is more important than ever to show our support for local and small businesses, especially those committed to selling quality Catholic products. When you purchase one of these Christmas gifts for Catholics on the shopping list, you will be supporting the ministry and work of businesses that share the message of Christ through their merchandise.

1. Knock Their Socks Off

Before you dismiss socks as the Christmas gift that no one wanted as a kid, check out these from the skateboard company Motherboards. From flaming Sacred Hearts and St. Benedict medals transfixed with swords meant to be worn with sneakers to subtle argyle patterns incorporating the Immaculate Heart meant to be worn with a nice suit, these make for an incredibly creative display of Faith!

2. Broken and Blessed

Combine the socks with a book that speaks to the style of hip, current, and thoughtful millennial Catholics, such as Fr. John Johnson's Broken and Blessed, and you've got a gift he won't forget.

When someone asks why he still holds firm and chooses to publicly express his Catholic faith, your recipient will be prepared.

3. Shirts for Introverts

Do you have an introverted relative or friend? Not a problem.

On the subject of clothing, For that quiet, deep thinker on your list, Ascension favorite Matt Fradd has just released a line of shirts with the double-take-inducing declaration:

"Extroverted, but open to discussion of Thomistic Metaphysics"

The wearer will smile, and those he meets will raise an eyebrow.

4. A Bible Commentary

A guy with a scholarly enough bent to get a good chuckle out of that shirt would undoubtedly enjoy something to read. Check out one of Ascension's Catholic Commentaries on Sacred Scripture for him. You can choose his favorite book, but the one on the Gospel of Mark is a safe bet.

5. St. Michael the Protector T-Shirt

Ranger Up, a veteran-owned T-shirt company, created this St. Michael tribute shirt, which is sure to become a favorite among the protective gentlemen in our lives. It's available in a few different colors, as well as as a wall art piece for his man cave.

Consider gifting this beautiful shirt with one of the weapons listed below to the fiercely faithful men in your life!

6. Rugged Rosaries

A good weapon will be appreciated by the majority of men. Furthermore, few things can remind men that we value their spiritual courage more than gifts that show them we see them as warriors.

When a priest friend of mine recently showed me his Rugged Rosaries Combat Rosary, I was truly impressed. It's nearly indestructible and appears to be as effective as a physical weapon as it is a spiritual one. There are also rosaries modeled after WWI military issue styles on the site.

Another type of military rosary that I recall being more common in Iraq and Afghanistan was simply made of carefully knotted paracord. Making one yourself will probably be appreciated as a very thoughtful gesture if you are crafty enough.

7. Black Monk Rosaries

Black Monk Rosaries feature a modern military construction and styles that include crusader and memento mori themes that men will appreciate.

They also have single-decade clips that will easily attach to the keys or pack he uses every day.

8. Pocket Guide to the Rosary

Any weapon requires a good user's manual, and one of the best is Ascension's Pocket Guide to the Rosary. It's small and leatherbound, but it's artistically beautiful, functional, and inspiring. It's also available in Spanish and English.

9. Spiritual Ammo

However, the Rosary is not the only weapon a Catholic man requires. I like the "ammo can" kits available from the priest who runs the Roman Catholic Man ministry, Roman Catholic Gear, as gifts for other powerful sacramentals and instructions.

Motherboards for the Sporty Sort

I mentioned socks from the company Motherboards earlier. If you have a skateboarder or snowboarder on your list, you will achieve an unrivaled level of coolness by gifting one of these Catholic art boards. They are so beautiful and edgy that even if I couldn't skate, I would hang one on my wall! They are also a fantastic Catholic lifestyle brand.

10. The ERosary

The Vatican has just released a wearable wrist rosary that is linked to an app that opens when the device detects you making the Sign of the Cross. It also serves as a health tracker. I'm not joking. It has only recently launched, so at the time of writing, it is only available in Italy. You can, however, sign up for updates and promise the techie on your list one of the first available in the US.

11. Catholic Phone Case

Meanwhile, if you're giving a phone as a gift, you can improve its Catholic swagger and utility. Consider adding one of these phone covers, also from Motherboards, and installing the iBreviary and iRosary apps, both of which work well on iPads, to help support and encourage his daily prayer habit.

12. Polished Arrow Talk by Jeff Cavins

For those who prefer multimedia presentations to books, Jeff Cavins' Polished Arrow is a fantastic DVD that is very appropriate for men. Listeners can multitask by growing in holiness while keeping their hands busy!

13. Foodie Favorites

What about some Catholic bar and kitchen gifts? If you have any questions about the Catholic approach to alcohol, check out this video from Fr. Mike!

14. Drinking with the Saints

You may already be aware of your recipient's preferred adult beverage. If that was your intention, pair it with Drinking with the Saints, a book I keep on my coffee table (and frequently consult). It includes beer, wine, and cocktail recipe suggestions for each saint's day throughout the liturgical year!

Similarly, if the faithful man on your list is a Food Network star or is particularly devoted to San Pasqual, get him one of the many amazing cookbooks based in monastery kitchens. There are so many options that you can Google them and choose the one he'll like best. This would also make an excellent addition to a food basket gift!

15. Mystic Monk Coffee

If he enjoys coffee, give him a highly rated roast that will outperform whatever gourmet brand he's currently addicted to, all while supporting prayer lives that benefit us all! A cloistered Carmelite men's community in Wyoming produces Mystic Monk Coffee.

The same is true for monastery-produced beers, cheeses, candies, and other delectable items. It's best and freshest to research and purchase from the monks and nuns closest to your community.

16. Catholicize Their Every-Day Carry

One of the most meaningful and personal things we can do for men in our lives is to instill a holy reminder in the items they carry and touch every day. For example, he might appreciate something personalized or inscribed.

In addition, as shown in the image above, custom engraved dog tags can carry a wonderful message of faith as well as a reminder of your love. Do you know a man who is devoted to St. Barsanuphius but cannot locate a medal for him? Any image you want can be laser-imprinted on a dog tag! There are kiosks in many shopping malls that provide this service around the holidays, as well as an online source.
